Williamsburg, KY – On Saturday, December 14th, Tennessee S3DA™ kicked off their 2020 season with their 1st Indoor Regional Tournament. FAC Archery club hosted this event at the First Apostolic Church Event Center in Maryville, Tennessee. The NEW Event Center features a full-size gymnasium, which provided ample room for three (3) flights of shooters over a 2-day period. Many archers traveled from as far as 3 hours away to attend the event. Altogether, seventy-four (74) archers from nine (9) clubs competed in seventeen (17) divisions with approximately 200 spectators filling the bleachers. Twenty-three (23) archers were new to S3DA™, competing in their very first S3DA™ event, which reflects the tremendous growth the organization is currently experiencing.
The 1st tournament of the season is always a special time as the archers are so excited to see one another after being apart for the last couple of months. There were a lot of hugs and smiles from kids and adults alike. One notable highlight of the event was the facility being equipped with the ability to livestream events, a first for Tennessee S3DA™ and this was very well received among both attendees and those unable to make it to the event.
East TN Regional Coordinator, Robert Carter, had only positive things to say about the venue and hopes to see FAC Archery host additional events in the future. Robert Carter stated, “Tennessee S3DA™ is fortunate to have access to such a great venue. The coaches of FAC Archery worked very hard to make sure the kids had a great experience here.”
First time competitor, Brysen Cunningham, was nervous as the tournament day approached. His father, Tyler, commented that he really appreciated that everyone was so encouraging and supportive, especially, the coaches who went out of their way to help kids regardless of the team name on the jersey.
When asked about his thoughts on the tournament, FAC Archery Head Coach Randy Cogdill stated, “We at FAC Archery were very pleased with the turnout and I think everyone was happy with our facility. I hope that we can continue to build a great archery program in Tennessee. I am very happy to play a small part in such a big organization. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to host the first event of the TN S3DA 2020 Indoor Season.”
