Kentucky S3DA Central Indoor Regional Tournament

On Saturday, February 25, 2017 the campus of Campbellsville University was buzzing with S3DA archers, coaches, parents, grandparents and friends for the S3DA Central Kentucky Regional Indoor 5 Spot Tournament.

With well over 200 archers competing from flight times as early as 8:30 am and as late as 3:30pm Kentucky Regional Coordinator Wes Barker along with a team of coaches and parents arrived on campus Friday evening to set up and be well prepared for Saturday’s event.

S3DA parent Angela Morrow from Lake Cumberland Arrow Slingers made this statement about S3DA, “S3DA is an excellent program for kids of all ages. What I love the most about S3DA is not only are the kids competitors but they are truly great friends. I’ve never witnessed so much hugging or hand shaking in my life or seen another sport that the competitors are so supportive of one another. I’m so happy my kids are part of a program that gives so much encouragement and support.”

Even without the need for shootoff’s these S3DA archers shot some very impressive scores. Ethan King shot a perfect score of 150/30x to earn 1st place in High School Open Male. Brady Hempton and Jase Boils also shot a 150 with only a few X’s difference to determine 2nd and 3rd place. High School Male Pins ranking was based solely on the number of x’s shot as all three young men shot 150’s. Elementary male Bently Boils also shot a 150/24x to earn 1st place in the elementary male pins class. The female archers also shot some very impressive scores with very little points and x’s between rankings. Meg Curtis shot a 149/17x’s to earn 1st place in High School Female open while Katie Hemmann shot a 149/19x’s to earn 1st place in High School Pins. Rebecca Heavener shot a 146/18 x’s to earn 1st place in Elementary Female Pins.

Boyd County High School was awarded 1st place high school team award with Daviess County placing a close 2nd. College View Middle school walked away with the 1st place middle school team and Jackson County Elementary School earned 1st place as well. The Impact Archery Club earned both elementary and middle school 1st place club awards.

“It is a great privilege for Campbellsville University to host the Central KY Regional 5 Spot tournament. It is not only a great opportunity for the college but also our community. These S3DA archers show great character, discipline and sportsmanship. It is fantastic to see so many wonderful volunteers working with young archers. We are thankful to Wes Barker and Doug Brockman for contacting us with this opportunity” -Campbellsville University Head Archery Coach Larry Creason.
