S3DA Names Ryan Hudson Colorado State Coordinator

Scholastic 3-D Archery has named Ryan Hudson as the S3DA™ Colorado State Coordinator. Ryan will oversee all aspects of the S3DA™ program in Colorado. Ryan’s goals as the State Coordinator include building a coaching staff of S3DA™ certified instructors across the western region and working with contacts to build a larger foundation of clubs and teams throughout Colorado. Ryan has already started working on these goals by hiring two Regional Coordinators to develop and operate S3DA™ within their assigned regions of Colorado. As a large western state with an ample archery background, Ryan’s main goal is to get more S3DA™ student memberships.

Ryan was born and raised in Fruita, Colorado and has pretty much stayed in the Colorado area. He currently lives on a farm with his family and they raise market hogs and sheep as well as show swine, goats and beef across the western states. Ryan graduated with a degree in Ichthyology and Wildlife Management. He is currently a Rifle High School FFA Advisor and Instructor, Colorado Hunter Education Instructor, USA Archery Level II Instructor, NASP Instructor and Colorado 4-H Archery State Team Instructor. Ryan has been shooting since he was a little kid and it all started when his grandpa gave him a Colt Recurve and a few cedar shaft arrows. Ryan’s family is very involved with archery and they are all hunters. Some animals that they have hunted to date include deer, elk and goose.

When Ryan got older, he began to teach and found showing others the joy and challenge of archery feels as successful as doing it himself. Ryan stated, “Working with all the programs there is a way to get every student successfully shooting if they want. It makes me smile, as I enjoy working with young adults in shooting sports and outdoor adventures.”

Ryan learned about S3DA™ as he was looking for more opportunities for kids to learn to shoot archery. He saw the S3DA™ program at “The Vegas Shoot” in 2017 and became curious about the program. Ryan said S3DA™ was a great program for all ages and he was really excited that the program offered a true potential for shooter success with a bow as well as with education and life-long skills.

Ryan Hudson states, “As a State Coordinator, we are going to see how it goes as we bring more coaches into the mix with the growth. We will work with Chris McDonald, National Outreach Coordinator and others to evaluate what areas we need to work on for the future.”

S3DA Partners with Rend Lake Area Tourism

The Rend Lake Area Tourism Council will be the host organization for the S3DA™ 3-D National Championship Tournament on June 18th-21st, 2020. Located in the heart of Southern Illinois, Rend Lake provides numerous recreational activities on land and water. After multiple meetings between the Rend Lake Area Tourism Council and S3DA™ National Staff a 3-year contract was signed to host this national tournament. The 2020 event will be located at the North Marcum Day-Use Area, which is a premier location for fishing, biking, hiking, wildlife watching and a host of other activities.

Rick Linton, Executive Director / Rend Lake Area Tourism Council states, “For the past ten years, both Rend Lake Area Tourism Council (RLATC) and Rend Lake US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have worked together to promote Rend Lake as a tourist destination. We have the Corps to thank for keeping this huge facility in pristine conditions as well as adding more visitor attractions and camping facility improvements every year. Our goals are the same, letting people know about the lake and its many visitor activities, attracting more visitors each year and making a visit to Rend Lake the very best experience for everyone who comes.”

Jennie Richardson, S3DA Executive Director said, “We are very excited to bring our 3-D National Championship Tournament to Rend Lake. The recreational and conservation activities that will be available to our student members and families will be of tremendous value. We look forward to building on this relationship to benefit Rend Lake as well as S3DA. This would not have been possible without the persistence and efforts of Illinois State Coordinator, Jim Sharp.”
